About Papua Partners

Drawing inspiration from Christian faith and the experiences and hopes of the Papuan People, Papua Partners is committed to transforming lives in Papua through tackling the causes and effects of poverty and social injustice.

Papua Partners was founded in 2006 in response to requests from local organisations in Papua for support in capacity development.  Papua Partners is managed by a board of trustees and currently has no full-time staff in the UK.

How we work
We partner with local organisations and churches in Papua to empower and improve livelihoods in local communities. We work with those who are passionate about making a difference and working for positive change in their communities.  We believe that partnering is a more sustainable way to work since these organisations will remain with the local Papuan people long after foreign aid agencies have gone home

We support the capacity development of local partners so they are better enabled to do their work. This is done through provision of technical advisors/development workers who work alongside the local partner. Together with our partner organisation, we identify areas where outside assistance has the potential to lead to change.

Where we work
Our current area of focus is Yahukimo Regency in the Central Highlands of Papua Province.

This area stretches from snow topped peaks to tropical jungle. In the past two years, we have initiated working with two tribes the Yalis and the Momunas.

What we do
Papua Partners partners with local organisations and churches in order to build their capacity to deliver sustainable human development processes that bring real positive change to the lives of Papuan people.

This is done through provision of technical advisors who work alongside the local partners, organisational development and by providing direct financial support to innovative and sustainable development initiatives. We support and accompany our partners to advocate effectively for change and equitable policies that represent the interests of the people in the communities and regions where they work.

We believe that partnering with local civil society is a more sustainable way to work since these organisations will remain with the local communities long after foreign aid agencies have left. We support the capacity development of local partners so they are better enabled to do their work. This is done through provision of technical advisors/development workers who work within or alongside the local partner. Together with our partner we identify areas where outside assistance has the potential to lead to change.
