History reveals the fact that survival of human race depended greatly on the collective efforts and equal interests of fellow human, counting on each other faithfully for various roles and tasks one might have played in his vital capacity. This very essence of human nature laid the foundation of communities, and later on civilizations. The community is a group of inhabitants living together determined by geographical boundaries under the same regulations and having common interests, functions, needs, organizations, using the same language, confronting to the same feeling, more or less the same sentiments and acting upon the same attitude. However, the art of survival gave us great civilizations but in nature we remain but social animal, devouring and exploiting fellow humans for material gains, denying the very basic rights to others which are considered legitimate for self. Since the dawn of times, the humanity never fell short of the visionaries who advocate social justice and equality by partaking in human development.
Being confined to geographical boundaries, our understanding of human feelings and sentiments greatly varies from each. The problems in the east might not be a problem at all in the west or not of same magnitude. For instance, addressing illiteracy might put an end to terrorism is very much debatable and prone to difference of opinions. We might agree to disagree on the issue of alleviating poverty according to our cultural understanding of the term, but for the advancement of the communities around the world, those envisioned are always in the lead to counter the problems and difficulties.
We are a developing nation and belong to the so-called third world; here the people face the plethora of hardship. People are unable to sustain the very basics of life. The fast growing population is stretching on the existing scarce means and resources. Poverty, illiteracy, ignorance, discrimination, social injustice, and inequitable distribution of wealth and lack of good governance cast havoc on the poor. There is an endless list of the woes and ills of this community and the solution lies in providing them the education, skills / trainings, basic health care along with the social security. Back in early twenties, few courteous and dedicated local men came up with the vision to help alleviate the sufferings of people with all possible means and help them get out of their socio-economic ordeal. Frequent lengthy brainstorming meeting yielded a road map to community development along with the prioritizing of the areas for quicker actions with clearly defined goals and long lasting affects. The whole project was resolved unanimously to be titled and called Community Advance Programme from which the term CAP is derived.
